April 2020

My daughter Heather, catching up on school work during the lockdown of spring 2020.

It’s been an odd time, staying close to home, only straying out for walks and swims and shopping when we really need stuff.  Hope everyone is doing OK  out there in the rest of the world.

I met Elvin today, at his workshop in Liscolman, between Coleraine and Ballycastle on the North Coast of Ireland. He’s been making pens from the barrels of Bushmills Whiskey, amongst other things.  Guitars, kitchen cabinets, bowls…, not from barrels, though.   He’s a maker of things.

And here’s one of the finished pens.

Portballintrae

Storm ‘Barbara’ is on the way, a large area of low pressure has been building a big swell out in the Atlantic for the last lot of days, and the waves are incredible. This is Portballintrae, N. Ireland, 21/12/2016 (Winter solstice)

Fuji x100

Covered an assignment for the paper today using a wee fuji x100 I’d borrowed for a couple of days. Not sure what to make of it really. It produces a fantastic file, and makes you work for a picture which is a good thing.  I’d guess the more up to date versions of the camera would be easier to work with, a little faster in operation etc, but overall, a joy to work with.

Been toying with the idea of switching over, at least in part, to a smaller system, and certainly todays job has helped convince me.

Went a bit ‘JJ’ with the lens flares here. Its due to a filter on front of the lens, rather than any problem with the camera.
